Norman Rockwell reference photos alongside finished works
This is how using reference works
Working smarter, not harder.
Reference, yo. #drawing
It’s both sad and amusing to me that people don’t understand how art is made think reference material and working smart is some vile thing. Here’s one of america’s most famous painters who’s works are built from reference, and this extends to other art forms as well.
Milt Kahl, an animator that many revere as the greatest disney animator who has ever lived, only worked without video reference in one film in his entire career (The Rescuers).
Reference material is powerful stuff in the right hands, and even history’s greatest artists used it.
